I am grateful that this course has helped me build skills and absorb information to help me recognize propaganda and think for myself since propaganda is found everywhere. In my essay, you will learn about the five propaganda insights that I believe are the most important for society to be aware of. These insights include understanding the many methods propagandists use to persuade, manipulate, and sustain stereotypes, as well as how propaganda may be useful and how to resist propaganda. Learning these insights in class has enabled me to become a more critical thinker and to defend myself from harmful propaganda. I was aware of the prevalence of propaganda in advertising, education, entertainment, journalism, public relations, government and politics, activism, and advocacy before taking this class. In today’s digital age, we are bombarded with information from a variety of sources, many of which are not trustworthy. Learning about propaganda can help us become more media literate, which means we can more effectively navigate and evaluate the information we encounter online and in other media. Propaganda has played a significant role in shaping historical events, from the rise of Nazi Germany to the civil rights movement in the United States. Understanding the role of propaganda in historical events can help us better understand their significance and impact. Using propaganda for good might accelerate our civilization to achieve goals that were unthinkable before the digital age. However, none of these advantages appear to exceed the disadvantages of propaganda. The only approach to mitigate the detrimental impacts of propaganda is to raise knowledge of the techniques propagandists employ to influence our ideas. Overall, it is extremely important to learn and understand propaganda for developing critical thinking skills, become more media literate, understand historical events, and promote social and political change.
