The Cities for our Future Challenge is a global competition run by the Royal Institution Of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in partnership with UNESCO UKNC and the ACU. Imaginative problem solvers from the wider field of surveying, urban design, architecture and engineering are invited to submit transformative ideas for projects and policies that solve some of the defining challenges of our time: Rapid Urbanisation, Climate Change and Resource Scarcity.

Out team selected to confront this “local” challenge: “What can cities like Athens (Greece), which attract high profile foreign residents, can do to preserve their social consistency?”

In a nutshell, our proposal is that “A problem for one person is an opportunity for another”. Regenerating an obsolete brownfield with excellent fundamentals to an autonomous city-in-the-city will help Athens to both enjoy the highly needed capital injection by foreign residential investors and evade the current adverse consequences of extraneous rapid urbanization pressure at its center.

Keep your fingers crossed for us!!
