Unrestricted views across the harbour

If your idea of heaven is sitting by the sea, listening to the rolling of the waves and breathing in the briny air then this weeks property of the week is one for you.

This property is one of six terraced houses which are known locally as “The Double Houses”. It is the north house on the seaward terrace and was built around 1817. The house is steeped in history as it was built originally for Christian Robertson and forms part of an iconic landmark in Stromness.

Of course one of the main selling points is the beautiful, unrestricted views of the harbour, it’s a must for anyone who loves to be by the sea.

The house does need complete renovation but with some hard work it would make a wonderful home. With two bedrooms, the property currently consists of a kitchen, living room, bathroom, large floored attic which would double up as a third bedroom and a cellar.

The property shares a large stone pier which is bounded by the sea, with the other 5 houses on Ness road. It has access to land and a shed directly opposite the property, again bound by the sea. Perfect for enjoying the views on a summers evening.

One thing to keep in mind with this property is that it is listed by the Historic Environment Scotland and lies within the Stromness Conservation Area. This could have an effect on your renovation plans, so do make sure to do your research on this property to avoid disappointment.

All interior rooms are of a good size; the kitchen comes complete with a full range aga set in to a brick arch way and plenty of built in cupboard space so that you can store your cookware and food.

The windows are large and let in a lot of natural light and come complete with shutters. The living room also has a large, brick fireplace which would be great for those cold, winter evenings.

The first floor is where you’ll find the two bedrooms and family bathroom. You then have access to a loft space which is fully boarded and would make a great third bedroom, study or even a master bedroom with an en-suite.

Stromness is the second most populated town in Orkney, Scotland with approximately 2,100 residents. It’s a town full of character which is apparent when you view this house. There are regular ferries from Stromness to Scrabster on the north coast of mainland Scotland.

Whilst Stromness may be small, it does host a range of great eateries and bars in the town centre. There are also a range of festivals that are put on throughout the year and plenty of local boutiques to indulge any love of shopping you may have.
