Thinking about making a change to your bedroom? Consider giving your headboard a renovation as it is the focal point of the space. Below, I share 3 easy budget-friendly DIYs you can do this weekend to bring character to your room — under $100!

1. Shutter Headboard

Head to any second-hand store or garage sale and you're bound to find old window shutters lying around. Instead of passing them by, repurpose them into a unique headboard! Grab three (or as many as you need to fit the width of your bed) and paint them a color that fits the theme of your room.

2. Wood Headboard

This one’s so simple, it hurts! All you need are 4–5 planks of new or reclaimed wood, two planks of wood to nail the makeshift headboard into, a drill, some sandpaper, and voila — you have a brand new headboard!

3. An Old Door

An old door doesn’t need to be thrown in the trash. Instead, put a fresh new paint color on it, unscrew the door handle, flip it on its side and attach two planks of wood to keep it standing up. It is not only a great way to repurpose an old door but adds personality and a unique statement to your space!

There you have it! Three quick, easy (and cheap) ways to create a new headboard for under $100. As a real estate agent, I’ve seen my fair share of home hacks like these to help transform “a house” into “your home.”
