We thought we’d add something different to the cycle of Saturday blogs. You’ve had libraries, writing huts, shelfies and writer’s homes. What about what is central to them all?

Books. Namely, their covers. We love a book and we love the sleeve on a hardback book, or the matt or gloss cover of a paperback. We had a look to see what alternative versions of famous book covers were out there. They’re pretty gorgeous, we think you will agree.

#1 — Terry Pratchett’s The Colour Of Magic.

#2 — David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas.

#3 — Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

#4 — Anthony Burgess’s Clockwork Orange.

#5 — Jonathon Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels.

#6 — Homer’s Iliad.

#7 — Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Cover by Mike Young.

#8 — George Orwell’s 1984. Cover by Eduardo Chang.

#9 — Brett Easten Ellis’s American Psycho.

#10 — Richard Adam’s Watership Down.

Where we know the name of the artist, they are credited. If you know any that haven’t been, do let us know. Likewise, send in any other excellent alternative book covers you like to info@theprose.com
