A short story about what the New Year can bring

It’s been many moons since I was introduced to hope. Growing up in church I had heard about hope I didn’t understand that it is as real as the air we breathe. Another nugget I learned later in life is that hope never leaves you.

Hope is an important force that beats time and seasons, but there is something extraordinary about a season of hope. No matter what is happening in your life, winter gives way to spring but breathing new life into your soul is possible. I hope that 2024 brings joy, peace and restoration to you and those you love.

Before I get virtual tomatoes thrown at me I will say along the journey of life many things can happen to our hope. Hope can be manipulated, disregarded, abused, buried, and even suffocated. Life has a way of introducing all kinds of challenges to a person’s hope.

The story that I want to emphasize is that hope never leaves you, it may be dormant or go through all the other traumatic stages when a trauma occurs. Hope is the thing that makes you believe in second chances, trust that a new idea could work or date someone you had not anticipated.

Hope is described in Webster’s dictionary as; cherishing a desire with anticipation. No matter how you describe hope it does not leave us. It is the silent guest at every dinner table, the member in every board room, and the third person in every relationship.

When I recognized I could not control life but I could control my response to life a different peace emerged within my soul. Life still presents circumstances I don’t understand. People still do people things but my response to all of it has changed. In less than 30 days 2024 will be upon all of us.

What does the New Year mean to you? Do you look for anything to change in your everyday life? I try to work on any concerns in my life as I observe them or as they are pointed out to me. There is no way a person can address every issue without becoming overwhelmed.

Let 2024 be the season of hope and transformation. Embrace what is new, and try not to doubt what you don’t understand. Remember that hope is still alive, though buried within. Give it another chance and see if you can win.
