Depression — what can be said about it that you have not thought about?

Depression is pervasive; it happens to everyone, no matter who you are or who you think you are.

Depression is not sarcastic, egocentric, racist, or concerned about your gender.

It does not matter where you live, how old you are, or what season of life you are in.

Depression will come to your house in the middle of the night, just after giving birth to your child or burying a loved one.

It is one of the most relentless and unwanted guests I have witnessed or experienced.

Depression does not care what side of town you live on, what Ivy League school you attended, or who your parents are.

I learned it does matter if you go to church, talk to the stars, or think you are a star.

Depression has one goal in mind, and that is to keep you stuck in despair.

While many people can navigate the moments of sadness that occur in life, there is something different about depression.

Depression comes with friends; you start a little sad, then your sleep is interrupted, and next your appetite is impacted.

As a therapist, I have witnessed the relentless attack of depression and how cruel it can be on the soul.

The beauty of what I have learned and experienced is that night turns to day. If you keep walking long enough, you will see the dawn.

I don’t believe in quick fixes; there will be seasons we have to walk out and some moments we will have to crawl out.

One will never know what can turn a moment of sadness into depression. I recognize that there are varying degrees of depression.

Depression is the common cold of the soul. It can be overcome, outwitted, beaten, and left to die.

I plan to stay sane; how about you?

Thank you for reading.

Be Well!
