A short story about a real issue that affects everyone at some time or another, emotional fatigue.

A soul that has grown weary-Author

Have you ever gone to sleep and woke up tired?
Have you ever taken a vacation and were so exhausted that you did not enjoy the time away? Have you been angry with a loved one for no reason? Have you seen a number on your phone let it go to voicemail without wondering what the call was about?

Sometimes we are not angry, disappointed, sad or even hurt we are emotionally bankrupt. Some of us have given so much, so long that we have nothing left to give ourselves let alone anyone else. And woe unto us if we are married, have a career, family or some other responsibility that requires that we be emotionally healthy.

When you realize you are emotionally fatigue you’re already in trouble, you’ve already been sharp, abrupt, unkind or rude. You have already begun to shut down, withdraw or bleed on those who did not cut you. Typically, this happens with women although I have seen it occur with men as well as it relates to their careers.

With that said wherever you are on the spectrum of emotional fatigue, back up, recalibrate yourself and take a time out. Turn off all social media notifications after a certain time, and pick one day a week that you do a social media detox, including news. It will be there the next day.

Reclaim an old hobby, if you like to cook, create a new meal for yourself. Start depositing back into you so that you are not in the red. Give yourself something every day, perhaps a favorite song first thing in the morning, the next day your favorite meal and every day invest incrementally into you.

Let the journey begin…
