A short story about the layers of people

Sometimes people come into your life for a season, a reason or a lifetime ~Unknown

People are complex, wonderful, introverted and mean-spirited all at the same time. People can be like onions when you look at our environment, traditions, spiritual upbringing and educational levels. As you begin to peel back the layers you can see some of what a person is dealing with and how resilient the human spirit is.

Life has issues built into and when you think about a person or people in general getting to the heart or core of why we respond a certain way can be vital. Anytime you are dealing with people which can be daily for most of us we should factor in the environment, traditions and religious beliefs.

In other words, all that encompasses who that person is will factor into who you are approaching and the type of person responding to you. I encounter almost daily people who will have a misunderstanding with someone and don’t consider that person may have unaddressed childhood concerns, abuse, food insecurities or some other mental health issue.

Just like an onion with layers and with each layer the tears begin to flow or the eyes will tingle. As it is for the person we approach or connect with day to day that may have one layer after another they are dealing with like chronic health concerns, child-rearing, career stressors or emotional burnout.

Recognizing that sometimes a person who is standing in front of you or connecting with you may have some concerns and it has nothing to do with you. Take a minute pause if someone is coming on strong for no reason, ask yourself if could they be dealing with something and need some grace.

Peel back the issue of the person if you know it, give the grace based on what you know and remember the same kindness you give today to someone you may need it tomorrow.

Let the journey begin…
