TGIF continues…“Virtually” | Ending the May with Refreshment
We’ve been running TGIF at the end of every month, we were continuing it on our Workspace until the lockdown, where we included different team-building activities and different games as a part of TGIF. But now, due to the circumstances, we are focused on continuing it virtually. In this blog, we’ll talk about our virtual TGIF of May where I’ll be explaining my perception as an organizer
You’re always on the difficult side if you are part of the organizing team: you need to be more precise on everything you are planning. One simple miss and you are in a big problem already. You need to think from many perspectives, create a picture of the event, and plan accordingly. Not only this, but you must also be with an accurate plan when you are presenting it to the team. Plan, present, and feedback until the picture seems clear to everyone. Then comes the time of execution, where one simple emotional imbalance may ruin the show. The more people you need to handle, the more difficult scenes become. Anyways let’s move towards into next section
Unseen Scenario…
We are working remotely now, and there are slight chances to know what’s happening behind the scenes of the TGIF organizing team. This is not known to any Proshorians either except a few. The plan started taking pace when the message was rolled on the Slack Channel that we’re going to organize the “virtual TGIF”. After that, we organized several meetings to plan the TGIF, discussed the possible games, and then discussed the execution plans. Finally, a draft was made and presented to the management team as well as the organizing members for the feedback. We sorted out different games and as a result, few were introduced on the TGIF.
The division into 4 chapters…
Later on the month, I got to know from the Prakash dai that we are again organizing monthly company-wide meetings where Haico, Jeroen, and Roshan will be sharing the company related details with every team member. The planning for TGIF was first done with 3 hours (2–5 pm) on sight, which later reduced to 2 hours. Anyways, we divided our TGIF into 4 chapters: Story Telling, Guess the Emoji Board, Remote Work Bingo, and Picture of Lockdown. Apart from these chapters, people were always to show their hidden talent in between the events. There was no certainty that this grouping will work obviously, but somehow, it worked. How? The reaction of people said all.
We’re expected to run the TGIF exactly 3 pm onwards. The circumstances were a bit difficult for me to organize, there was heavy drizzle in Eastern Nepal, which consequently lead to a power cut off for a day. The battery was low which could even lead to the shut-down of the system. In the end, everything went right and I was able to host the event with ease.
Story Telling…
Storytelling is boring sometimes when you don’t have any interest in the topic being spoken, or you have some personal problem with the people speaking :P. It applies to the “specialist” rather than the “generalist”. There’s never any problem in listening, what you need to do is just filter the information. And It’s not boring either to listen to someone unless the guy is too subjective. We’ve picked 3 people earlier to the event to tell about the life they are living in this Lockdown. Bikram was first to tell his story, where few of the thing was already told by him on lockdown story which was posted earlier on Facebook and Instagram as well. Apart from the story there, he has shown one of the creative DIY, which he built in this lockdown days. This DIY was the laptop stand which would make it easy for the person to use the laptop in the sleeping position. If you wish to get a clear demo, do message us!
And the second one to stand up for the storytelling was Jyotindra a.k.a James. He was up with his wall climbing story which sounded a bit strange at first. He then talked about his online classes and work-out. The funny thing he told us was it is now easier to sleep in the lecture. He then added that he is missing the social life as well as the delicious ‘MO: MO”
And now comes the Nishant, the cool and calm guy in Proshore. His story was more impartial or objective. He mainly focused on the point that we are lucky to be in this industry. “There are many people who are now jobless, who don’t have food to eat”, Nishant added, “we must be very grateful that we are a part of this industry, we can do our job even in this toughest time”. He further added, “Let’s make this lockdown more productive and not get bored because you have a lot to do”. You can read the rest of Nishant’s story on Facebook and Instagram as well.
Guess the Emoji Board…
In this game, every Proshorians were asked to guess whose Emoji Board was displayed on the screen. We collected 10–15 emoji Boards (of Slack though) from the Proshorians keeping everything secret. Now it’s the time of the show — we displayed emoji one by one on the screen and asked every individual to guess it correctly. It was more fun though. The rule was that whose emoji board is displayed should not give the correct answer. The moment of awkwardness occurred when the person who keeps quiet was the correct answer and it was easily guessed, but it didn’t continue long. We then changed to “The wrong Answer is also allowed”. This rule only applied for the one whose emoji Board is displayed. There was a discussion on who was the winner. The winner is still not announced and it’s kept secret 😜. This way we ended the game.
Remote Work Bingo…
We’re practicing remote work for a while, and we are being used to different habits, missing some old habits, and practicing different habits as well. On this basis, we’ve made a list of things and included in a board which has been called “Bingo Board”. So, we provided this board to every individual and asked everyone to tick the thing you are experiencing. We found that people are missing the most loved “khaja set”. Here’s what we got from the Proshorians!
Picture of Lockdown…
Just before a week of TGIF event, we passed the following message on our Slack Channel
“Hello everyone, We all know Lockdown is slowly turning out to be demoralizing. But we all know, the virus isn’t itself demoralizing and discouraging, but it’s a human way of thinking. For the human, the same virus is an opportunity, and the same virus is demoralizing for other humans. A slight change in the way of thinking leads to enormous opportunities, let’s explore ourselves with the surrounding these days, and do share any “picture” of your surroundings (pets, scenery, workplace, etc). You can submit your picture till 28th May. We’ll be sharing the pictures with every Proshorians on the TGIF. Thank you”
After the message flow, the response was quite good. I was able to collect more than 20 pictures from different individuals. Here’s the picture which I received
Every individual shared the story behind the pictures, what were the circumstances behind that. The picture of the “money plant” seen above was the art of Susmit. Similarly, the picture of crop cultivation was by Rohit, Babish started playing the guitar once again, Aayush going back to his village sitting in the “chautari”, Ashish with his cultural click, and much more.
It was 5 pm on the clock and again I was a victim of the power-cut. The connection suddenly broke and it took some time to even take some data pack. This breaks the momentum for sure. And when I was back, more than 15 people already left thinking TGIF was over 😆. Common sense sometimes doesn’t work in the way it should 😛. Anyways, we sent the message to the Slack channel.
After the ending of four different events, we had some random talks with the team. The talk was going on, suddenly, James said he is going to do the mimicry of some of the famous people in the country. We didn’t expect this before his mimicry and we didn’t either expect the mimicry he shown to us — It was great!
We have now completed 2 virtual TGIF on the row, and, we are believing it’s possible to conduct virtually. Any sort of fault in the plan and you are ready to pay the price as always. We are again going for 3rd Virtual TGIF, and we hope we could conduct it successfully. We’ll be back again with the next blog. You can read our previous articles here as well 😊
