Are You Denting the Universe?

If you study the work and career of Steve Jobs, his underling philosophy comes through very clearly. He believed we were here to put a dent in the universe. While I was writing my book Risky Is the New Safe, I spent many hours researching visionary innovators such as Oprah, Mark Cuban, Sir Richard Branson, and Jobs — looking for the commonalities in the way they think. And the funny thing with Jobs is that whenever you got under the hood — reading about product development meetings in the Apple conference rooms for example — there was one piece of evidence at the scene of every crime: His “fingerprints” to dent the universe.

Like Jobs, I also believe that when you have a strong enough vision, you bend the universe to your will…

This is one of those concepts that the uninitiated have a difficult time understanding and especially believing in. And you’ll often subject yourself to ridicule by discussing it, because some will accuse you of being superstitious, irrational, or even gullible. They equate this concept of shaping or co-creating the world around you with magical thinking like wishing upon a star, looking for guidance from horoscopes, or believing if you watch The Secret enough times, your Lamborghini will drive itself into your driveway. But these cynical beliefs are missing the point, and the actual science underneath it.

At its ultimate level, everything in the universe can be distilled down to an energy vibration. And energy vibrations respond to other energy vibrations. Energy can be repelled or attracted. Which means you really can in a sense, bend the universe to your will. (For a deeper dive on the subject, read this.)

Just like the innovators mentioned above, when you craft a vision for a bold, daring, and imaginative goal, you create a mental energy state around your idea. That energy interacts positively or negatively with the other energy surrounding you. You physically attract or repel things, depending on the energy you are emitting.

This concept of attracted and repelled energy applies in all areas of prosperity, including intangibles like health, harmony, and relationships. No, you won’t move a mountain with a mustard seed. But faith the size of a mustard seed is an entirely different matter. (Fear and faith can never co-exist; only one can survive. When you feel fear, profess faith.) Faith is an incredibly appealing energy that attracts people and circumstances to your cause, creating a ripple effect across the universe of reactions to your vision. When you create enough energy around your vision, you alter the trajectory of the universe, ever so slightly. Or greatly.

Peace,
