Challenge Brings Prosperity

Most people are on the lookout for great opportunities in life. The reason most never discover one it is because they simply don’t recognize them — because they are disguised as challenges. Every once in a great while you’ll have a golden opportunity that screams opportunity. But most of the opportunities (and usually the most lucrative ones) are the ones that come from solving problems, overcoming challenges, or otherwise remedying a difficult or negative situation.

In my book, Risky Is the New Safe, I suggested that in the new economy, the most sought-after currency in the world will be ideas. I believe we’re there now. Want to get wealthy? Look for problems, challenges, and obstacles. Then nurture the ideas that could solve them.

It’s not that prosperity is meant to be elusive or difficult. It is not. But prosperity comes to those who are equal to it.

A big part of the process for most people is experiencing the necessary challenges to shape their character and develop their wisdom. You gain wisdom by learning from the mistakes of others and your own mistakes. The more you learn by observing what others do, the fewer mistakes of your own are necessary. But all of us have some lessons we must learn through our own trial and error. Prosperity-conscious individuals understand this and welcome those challenges as the stepping stones they must traverse to become the person they need to become. It’s not that they like to fail or be thwarted; they hate it. But they recognize the gift in the challenge — the chance to change, modify, or otherwise learn the lesson that allows them to break through.
