Championships are never won on the pitch. They’re won at practice.

Whether I’m competing on the softball field, against another author to crack the New York Times bestseller list, or a company deciding whether to hire me or another speaker for their event — I don’t want a fair fight. I want a competitive advantage…

During a softball game, I want the hours I spent in the gym, doing drills, and at the batting cage to give me an edge up. For my work, I want my preparation, study, reputation, experience, branding, and marketing to cause me to stand out above the others.

You too, will have a lot more success if you work to create a competitive advantage for yourself. So how do you do that? What are some powerful sources of competitive advantage?

  • Your reputation
  • Critical thinking ability
  • Strong writing skills
  • Good speaking skills
  • Other unique skills
  • Integrity
  • Being bilingual or multilingual
  • Ability to practice discernment (rationality)
  • Vibrant health
  • Network of connections (online and offline)
  • Capital
  • Ability to adapt
  • Ease of learning
  • Willingness for delayed gratification
  • Your platform (blog, podcast, position, etc.)

How do you rate yourself on this list? What am I missing? Let me know below.
