A couple weeks ago I raised the subject of inspiration with the readers of my “Gage on Prosperity” newsletter. More specifically, the role inspiration plays in motivation. Inspiration is a very important word the world just now. People need motivation which comes from within. But a lot of them don’t have enough in the tank to motivate themselves, so they’re looking for sources of inspiration.

One of the most important things you can do to become successful is learning the sources of inspiration that personally inspire you.

For example, seeing someone vibrating in their unique mad genius inspires me. I can remember watching the Headbangers Ball at 1 am seeing Guns ‘N Roses for the first time with chills running down my spine — knowing I had just witnessed once in a generation genius. A couple decades later yet when I’m in a tight softball game and my team needs a big hit from me, “Welcome to the Jungle” is the walkup song I’m playing in my head. Just like I’ll reread Pressfield’s The War of Art every time I’m beginning a new book.

When you’re facing what seems to be an insurmountable obstacle, you may find it helpful to remember the people who believed in you before you even believed in yourself. Or the podcast that gets you jacked up. (Hopefully mine.) You might need to recite the poem that lights you up, remember the friend who always has an encouraging word, or select the song on your playlist that gets you through that last rep in the gym. Most importantly, know which people in your social feeds pull you up, and which ones pull you down.

Motivation is self-generated. But you can definitely be inspired to motivation. Make sure you know the sources that compel you to the highest possible version of yourself.

Peace,

RG
