Overcoming all the hardships for four prosperous years the Prosperous Capital and Credit Limited entered to the year 2017 with lots of dreams and hopes flowing like a beautiful waterfall.
People and planet are at the heart of our purposeful story. And it all begins with a woman.
Women are the center of a home. They work hard not only in their households, but in the workforce too, as making ends meet also falls on their shoulders.
Empowering women through women. Prosperous Capital & Credit Limited (PCCL) operates on this philosophy, using sustainable microfinance solutions. Based on sustainable development, we strive to contribute to socioeconomic progress in Sri Lanka by empowering women in rural parts of the country to generate an income and become economically self-sufficient.
We don’t stop there.
By empowering the woman in the home, we strengthen their family. Women in a family unit and family-run businesses are our main target group. Our development officers, all women, identify women in rural parts of Sri Lanka who do not qualify for traditional banking services. When we finance a woman, the micro, small or medium enterprise (MSME) loans we provide are analyzed under various criteria, including health, hygiene, the business’ environmental impact, and access to education.
They receive an initial capital of LKR 25,000–100,000 to start a small business of their choosing. Once they start generating a healthy income, they gradually pay back the loan. The women set up small businesses in the agriculture, pottery, weaving, and livestock farming industries, among others.
We also created Islamic Microfinance solutions that comply with Shari’ah Law to help economically vulnerable Muslim families to develop their livelihoods.
None of this would be possible without our colleagues. We offer them a qualification in microfinance, and build their capacity through training programs, including training overseas and exposure visits. Our field staff receive life insurance, motor cycles, fuel, uniforms, mobile phone facilities and training.
To do what we do for people, we need the planet. In addition to financing MSME projects that have a positive environmental impact, we distribute a plant with each loan we give, and closely monitor the outcome. We have also launched a number of green microfinance initiatives.
With all of these 2017 was a life changing process for the company and the employees, the year the dreams turned to reality.
The biggest change was the “NAME”, yes, we changed our company name in February 2017, the name Prosperous Capital and Insurance Limited was changed to Prosperous Capital and Credit Limited and again we went beyond by winning the most valuable awards and became the knight in shining amours’ by receiving the Asia Responsible Entrepreneur Awards and the Green leadership award title in June 2017.
Also in 2017 the PCCL took greater steps forward than the other micro finance companies by being the first micro finance company in Sri Lanka to do an Initial Public Offering in the Stock Market.
Our promise and our vision are driven by our mission. That is to “build a human force to develop living standards of families by providing productive socio-economic opportunities”. This human force is our people (staff).
We offer them a qualification in microfinance, and build their capacity through training programs, including training overseas and exposure visits. Our field staff receive life insurance, motor cycles, fuel, uniforms, mobile phone facilities and training.
Our staff are trained to engage with clients based on the PRIDE model.
Professionalism — We train our staff on the job. We offer them a qualification in microfinance, and build their capacity through regular training programs, including training overseas and exposure visits. We also build on their motivation through a quarterly capacity building session with professional trainers.

Respect — our development officers visit each client on a weekly basis, thereby building a relationship with them. This fosters trust and mutual respect that goes beyond the traditional client-service provider relationship. Furthermore, our development officers are all women, which makes it easy for our female clients to speak openly with them. Upholding the importance of gender equality, we support the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles. Our chairperson and Assistant General Manager are women. We employ women as development officers, and the team leader is a woman. Empowering women is how we work.
Integrity — we are always honest and transparent with our clients.
Dedication — as mentioned in Our Story, when we finance a woman, we work towards strengthening her family unit and their socioeconomic environment. By building a relationship with each of our clients, and by providing they support to not only develop their business, but also their health, housing and children’s education, we dedicate ourselves to ensure their progress and prosperity.
Excellence — we consider our awards a humble testament to our vision and mission, and look ahead as there is much to accomplish.

With all of these are you ready to be a part of the most exciting year of PCCL?
