Citizen’s mission to ‘Protect the World’ all starts with our community members staying informed and protecting each other.

With our Community Follow feature, you can now follow specific places to receive alerts for the areas you care about most, no matter where you are. Follow the neighborhoods where you and your loved ones live, work, go to school, and more.

Here’s how to Find & Follow Communities

  • Tap the 🛡️ icon in the upper left-hand corner of the Citizen app.
  • In the Places window, search for the name of any neighborhood or community you wish to recieve alerts for.
  • Tap Follow to keep track of the places you care about!
  • At the bottom of the menu you can switch between active Citizen cities, to check out incident feeds in New York City, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

When you follow a community, you’ll receive priority notifications for escalating and confirmed incidents happening in the area.

Note: You’ll continue to receive notifications for incidents near your current location as usual.

Community Incidents & Chat

When exploring a community, you can now view a feed of the past 500 incidents occurring in the area. You can also discuss local incidents and trends with fellow community members in chat.

At Citizen, we’re always working hard to bring you new features to help you keep yourself and your loved ones safe and protected. Make sure to follow us right here on Medium to stay up-to-date with the latest features and tips on how you can continue to #ProtectTheWorld
