In my earliest memories, I can remember how the Indians were described in classrooms. A collection of facts, dates, and numbers erasing the…
context in which these events took place. There was one detail which was not missed, however. The European settlers were seen as tempered and benevolent, teaching civilization to the scantily clad savage. The early American colonists were seen as heroic figures beating back the Indian hordes. Columbus, a man from a family of merchants and weavers, who came seeking fortune in Asia was seen as a kind of symbol for the birth of America.

There is a deep need for an understanding of the various and multifaceted issues facing marginalized people groups/communities, so to that…
end I have created a publication with the intention of broaching the need of that understanding and communication. I will be attempting to request stories that speak to multiple issues, be it environmental racism, Native American erasure, or the irresponsible language of a Presidential candidate using mental illness as a punchline. I’m really trying to build something that will last here on Medium, so do me and hopefully yourselves a favor and follow Protest Literature.
