Bringing blockchain and machine learning together, the strategic partnership will focus on full-cycle development of DApps, protocols, oracles, off-chain apps, etc.

Driving open data economy

Buenos Aires, Argentina — February 26, 2020, Protofire and Ocean Protocol are announcing a collaboration to build decentralized data marketplaces and this way facilitate the continued expansion of the open data economy.

Ocean Protocol is enabling the safe and secure sharing of data and services to fuel the advancement of AI development. Using advanced blockchain technology and an innovative tokenized ecosystem, Ocean Protocol is able to safely connect data providers and data consumers to unlock data and value-added data services. Marketplaces and intermediaries using Ocean Protocol can provide tools to offer discovery and value-added services to data consumers. A tokenized service layer securely exposes data, storage, compute, and algorithm for consumption.

Protofire, a Web3-focused division of Altoros, has proven expertise in blockchain and DApps. Combining a deep knowledge of Ethereum and machine learning (ML), Protofire will support Ocean Protocol in its mission to develop data marketplaces.

Building data marketplaces with blockchain and ML

According to Manuel Garcia, CTO at Protofire, “We believe in the power of data, decentralized markets, and open-source technology. Collaborating with the team behind Ocean Protocol, we aim to unify two powerful technologies — blockchain and machine learning — in a single platform to democratize data, while preserving security.”

Under the strategic partnership, Ocean Protocol clients can employ blockchain expertise from Protofire through the following services:

  • a full development life cycle of DApps, protocols, oracles, and off-chain apps that consume deployed data sets
  • DevOps tools and DApps integrations to easily set up and operate data assets
  • smart contracts development.

Protofire will offer maintenance and support needed to address the challenges in blockchain adoption. In addition, the team at Protofire will provide token holders with real-world use cases (e.g., The Graph Protocol) on how to scale the network.

“Working in a collaborative environment across teams can be both rewarding, yet challenging. Between defining specs and aligning the desired scope, a lot of effort and time are put forth in preparing to do the actual work. From the beginning, the collaboration with Protofire has been seamless. The team displayed impressive foundational knowledge of Ocean tech and, after a quick onboarding, they were working on core protocol enhancements and jumping into code development. We’re thrilled to work with such an enthusiastic and experienced team.”

— Alex Coseru, VP of Engineering at Ocean Protocol.

The Ocean Protocol and Protofire teams

In this partnership, Protofire will deliver a reference implementation of Ocean Protocol that can be further used and customized to easily build data-driven marketplaces. These marketplaces will utilize smart contracts to automate agreements between data buyers and sellers, as well as ensure timely payments.

About Ocean Protocol

Ocean Protocol is a decentralized data exchange protocol to unlock data for AI, launched in 2017. Through blockchain technology and the OCEAN token, Ocean Protocol connects data providers and consumers, allowing data to be shared while guaranteeing traceability, transparency, and trust for all stakeholders involved. It allows data owners to give value to and have control over their data assets without being locked-in to any single marketplace.

About Protofire
