This week, Proton hit a new milestone: our DJ mixes on Spotify & Apple have officially powered more than 12 million plays for our artists, labels, and DJs.

During our beta, DJs have uploaded more than 600 mixes through Proton to Spotify & Apple, making us the largest provider of mixes to both platforms, to our knowledge. If you’re just joining us, here’s the story so far:

  • With Proton’s mixes on Spotify & Apple, artists & labels earn as much money from a play in a DJ Mix as they do from an unmixed stream from their original release.
  • DJs earn money from every play too (10%), coming from Proton’s own share, incentivizing DJs to promote their mixes to their fans.
  • Listeners & fans can see exactly what song is playing in the mix, so they can save their favorites or discover new artists to follow.

In 2020, our mixes on Spotify & Apple boosted streams by over 10%, on average. Meaning when a track gets featured in 10 mixes, plays for a track can easily double or more.

We’re still in beta and DJs are limited in what tracks they can play:

  • Label Mixes (Phase 1)Over 2K of Proton’s music labels can release DJ Mixes featuring their own catalog. See an example here.
  • Artist Mixes (Phase 2) — Over 40K artists with music released on Proton’s labels can feature music from any of the Proton labels where they’ve released music on already. Example here.
  • Promo Mixes (Phase 3) — *NEW* When a music label adds a DJ to their Proton Promo pool, each DJs can start featuring the label in their mixes too. Example here.

Proton Artists & DJs can visit their Track Stack to browse all the tracks available to play in their mixes, and can learn how to start uploading mixes here. If you don’t have any music appearing in your Track Stack yet, read on…

I run a music label. How can I get involved?

I’m an artist, but my label isn’t on Proton yet. What can I do?

If you’re an artist but your music label is not with Proton yet, share this link with the label manager & invite them to the beta.

I’m a DJ, how can I get started?

Right now DJs can only upload mixes to Spotify & Apple if they’ve been added to a promo pool on Proton. If you’re receiving promos via other platforms, invite the label to join. Once they join, you’ll be able to start featuring their music in your mixes if they add you to their pool.

Proton is hard at work on the next phase of our beta, so stayed tuned to our blog for the latest updates as things unfold.
