Our True Country
A good story or poem not only brings the reader into a beautiful and enriching experience; it also illuminates things about the reader himself that he didn’t see before.
It’s like getting so caught up in a good story that it almost becomes familiar, like a memory you had forgotten or a dream you awoke from.
It’s like reading a poem and discovering in someone else’s words a truth you hadn’t known about yourself.
This is the power of good writing.
This is why we want to create a space for writers in the Church — because we recognize the redemptive power of story, the healing nature of words.
We want to spur one another on toward good work — that of New Creation.
It’s Kingdom work — bringing forth something new and beautiful that wasn’t there before, bearing God’s image into a weary world.
Ultimately, we want to point people’s feet toward home.
Our writing should be the signposts that lead just over the next hill, to our true country.
