PRI/PRX recently announced that Andrea Crossan, currently interim executive producer for PRI’s The World, has been appointed as Executive Producer for the program, effective May 1.

Crossan joined The World in May 2004. She served as the series director of PRI’s Across Women’s Lives project, reporting on gender rights from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Uganda, South Africa, Pakistan, India, Brazil, and Kenya. In 2017, Crossan created the 50 States project, reporting on the impacts of globalization in the United States. She’s also produced coverage of immigration issues from the U.S. border and Mexico.

“I’m thrilled to lead this outstanding team of journalists for the next chapter of The World. It’s an exciting time of change for the show. We’re a diverse newsroom with a strong mission to deliver stories from around the world with depth and nuance. It’s my sincere belief that there has never been a more critical time for us to provide a global perspective on the issues of the day,” said Crossan.

Crossan began her career with The World as a BBC producer in the London bureau. She has worked for a number of news organizations, including the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Associated Press and NBC News. Andrea has a Master’s degree in International Journalism from City University London.

“Andrea has reported in difficult places on stories that demanded empathy, toughness and courage,” said John Barth, chief content officer at PRI/PRX. “She’s already shown those qualities leading the talented team at The World and we need that to deliver a fresh show worthy of the listeners we serve.”

“We’re confident that Andrea’s leadership at The World will be transformative to the future of the program,” said Jon Abbott, president and CEO of WGBH. “Given Andrea’s vision, focus and expertise we’re excited by the new momentum surrounding this weekday program, that brings audiences critical news with a global perspective.”

PRI’s The World is a one-hour, weekday radio news magazine offering a mix of news, features, interviews, and music from around the globe. Launched in 1996, The World, a co-production of WGBH/Boston, PRI/PRX, and the BBC World Service, airs weekdays on more than 250 public radio stations across the United States and Canada.
