This season of Love Letters tackled a really tough question: how do you meet someone? We caught up with host Meredith Goldstein to talk about the just-wrapped Season 2, which explores everything from online dating to meet-cutes to work crushes.

PS— Love Letters Season 2 is the perfect binge-listen for all your summer roadtrips, beach days, or end-of-summer-fling heartaches! Listen now.

Congratulations on another great season of Love Letters! What was your favorite episode?

It’s tough to pick a favorite, but I love Episode 3, which is about how geography affects our romantic lives. So many of us believe that if we lived elsewhere, it would be easier to find romance. Episode 3 really clarifies whether that’s true. And, randomly, it features an excellent Boyz II Men parody, and an interview with my sister, who explains a dating theory she calls “importing” … I should mention that I also loved Episode 8 about my college crush, Matt Dorfman. Because so many of us have had a Matt Dorfman.

Did you learn something this season that surprised you?

The big lesson was that meeting people takes work, and in my own personal life, I haven’t always been comfortable with that. I’ll work hard for my career. I’ll put myself out there for professional opportunities. And yet with dating, I’ve been passive. Maybe because pop culture and movies tell us that romance is about fate — that it will happen when you least expect it. But that’s not really true. One of the big themes of this season was that you have to look.

Did you hear from any listeners about an interesting way they met someone?

We have a bonus episode coming this summer about people who met partners in online communities. One featured couple met in the comments section of my own Love Letters column. So that makes it my favorite meet-cute story of all.

Dating can feel like a second full-time job — in Episode 4, Meredith looks at the epidemic of dating fatigue.

What’s your favorite part of making the podcast?

This season, I’ve loved hearing how people’s voices change when they tell me about the moment they found love. They sound wistful. They sound younger. Sometimes they take deep breaths because they’re overwhelmed by the memory. It makes me feel very romantic. It’s hard to be cynical when you hear some of these origin stories.

So, when will you be back with more episodes?

We have two bonus episodes this summer. One will be the live taping we’re hosting at the Comedy Studio at Bow Market in Somerville. If you’re a New Englander, please come on June 9! Then we’ll be back for Season 3 this fall. We’ll be answering another wonderfully complicated question. Stay tuned, and until then, check out the column — and send a letter.
