Ira Glass and Glynn Washington Are Teaming Up for A Public Radio Pledge Drive Storytelling Battle
Listeners are invited to vote for their favorite story shared by creators of “This American Life” and “Snap Judgment” with a donation to their favorite station
We’re fortunate to help bring a number of beloved programs to hundreds of public radio stations across the United States, in nearly every state. If you’re tuned into your local station, there’s a chance you’ll soon hear two pioneers of audio on the airwaves together: Ira Glass of “This American Life” and Glynn Washington of “Snap Judgment.” (PRX is the distributor of the “This American Life” and “Snap Judgment” radio shows as well as the “Snap Judgment” podcast.”)
Through creating “This American Life” and “Snap Judgment,” respectively, Glass and Washington have helped to define public radio storytelling. They’re now teaming up together for a friendly story competition, a “Story-off.” The reason? It’s public radio pledge drive season, a time when contributions from listeners go a long way to help local stations.
You might be familiar with public radio pledge drives. They take place each season and feature the important voices of local hosts, or the talented creators and producers behind shows, who take a short programming break to supply information regarding where and how to donate. You might hear such a message during morning drive-time, for example.
Glass and Washington are embarking on this friendly head-to-head competition to tell the best story over a series of fundraising spots, inviting listeners to vote for their favorite with their pledge. When giving online, listeners may make a comment to signify their vote, or if by calling their station by phone, are welcome to inform the operator.

PRX is elated to work with “This American Life” and “Snap Judgment” on these pledge spots. We thank Ira, Glynn, and the production teams of each show for helping to bring them to air. Thank you, too, to public radio stations around the country for engaging.
