Radiotopia from PRX Announces New Podcast Series and Seasons

Listeners will hear new episodes from “Radio Diaries,” “Everything Is Alive,” “Normal Gossip,” “Mumbai Crime,” “Adult ISH,” “Benjamen Walker’s Theory of Everything,” and “Ear Hustle”

Radiotopia from PRX — the acclaimed podcast network for independent creators — today announced new special series and seasons from multiple shows. New fall releases are produced by creators of Everything is Alive, Radio Diaries, Normal Gossip, Mumbai Crime, Adult ISH, Benjamen Walker’s Theory of Everything, and 2020 Pulitzer Prize finalist Ear Hustle.

New series render the imagined inner lives of animals, stories of individuals buried anonymously in America’s largest public cemetery, the secret history of 1950s cultural cold war, the realities of incarceration, advice for adulting, juicy yet banal gossip, and a thriller recorded on the streets of Mumbai, India.

Beginning September 27 — Everything is Alive presents: The Animals

Everything is Alive — a comedic interview show featuring inanimate objects — presents The Animals, a five-part series in which listeners hear the life story of different creatures. The series will feature performers including Hari Kondabolu (The Problem with Apu), Connor Ratliff (Dead Eyes), Maeve Higgins (Naked Camera), Vinny Thomas (Platonic), and Upright Citizens Brigade improvisers Alex Dickson and Sebastian Connelli. Everything is Alive from Ian Chillag has been praised by The New Yorker, IndieWire, and more. Chillag also recently co-created the Radiotopia podcast In the Scenes Behind Plain Sight, a rewatch series for a show that never existed, named one of the best podcasts of the year so far by Vulture and TIME.

Beginning September 28 — “The Unmarked Graveyard: Stories from Hart Island” from Radio Diaries

Hart Island, an uninhabited strip of land off the Bronx in New York’s Long Island Sound, is America’s largest public cemetery, sometimes known as a “potter’s field.” Since 1869, more than a million people have been buried there, including early AIDS patients, unidentified and unclaimed New Yorkers, immigrants, incarcerated people, artists, and approximately 10% of New Yorkers who died of COVID-19. Many buried on Hart Island are shrouded in anonymity — there are no headstones or plaques. This multi-part series from Peabody Award-winning Radio Diaries — named an official selection of the 2023 Tribeca Festival — tells the stories of individuals buried through a range of circumstances, including a man who lived in a city park, a prominent writer, a missing college student, an estranged uncle, and a father who struggled with addiction.

“The Unmarked Graveyard” is a series of mysteries, many following people as they search to find out what happened to their loved ones, and even who they were. The production team includes host Joe Richman, Alissa Escarce, Nellie Gilles, Mycah Hazel, Daniel Gross, Deborah George, Ben Shapiro, and Lena Engelstein. Episodes will also air weekly on NPR’s All Things Considered.

Beginning October 12 — a new season of Adult ISH from YR Media

Adult ISH from YR Media is an award-winning advice, storytelling, and culture podcast hosted by Oakland-based Nyge Turner and Atlanta-based Dominique “Dom” French. They invite audiences into a weekly mix of thoughtful conversations, immersive personal stories, and practical tips from charismatic special guests and beloved friends. In the newest season, Nyge and Dom will tackle topics including busting the racist myth of Black athletic superiority; Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit (MMIWG2S) people; and how to handle different types of conversations. To mark the 10th season of Adult ISH, there will also be a few surprises including call-backs from favorite episodes and new conversations with old friends of the show.

Beginning October 18 — a new season of Normal Gossip from Defector Media

From Kelsey McKinney and Alex Sujong Laughlin, a new season of the podcast follows a nation-wide Normal Gossip tour that had stops in eight major U.S. cities. Normal Gossip features juicy, strange, funny, and utterly banal stories which are anonymized and told to a guest. Gossip-spilling guests have included Samantha Irby (Quietly Hostile), Samin Nosrat (Salt Fat Acid Heat), Lindsey Webber and Bobby Finger (Who? Weekly), Hannah Giorgis (The Atlantic), Laci Mosley (Scam Goddess), and more. Normal Gossip launched in 2022 to fast acclaim and was named the #1 best show of the year by Vulture. The show joined Radiotopia in 2023 and has been cited as one of the best shows of the year so far by critics at VOGUE, Esquire, PopSugar, and ELLE.

Beginning November 7 — “Not All Propaganda is Art” from Benjamen Walker’s Theory of Everything

In a new special podcast series from radio writer and producer Benjamen Walker, he reckons with the cultural cold war roots of our current battles over propaganda, art, and politics. All the action takes place between 1956 and 1960 — the height of when spy agencies like the CIA were using culture, artists, and intellectuals to shape the future of Europe and the developing world. “Not All Propaganda is Art” follows three writers who fought on the front lines of the cultural cold war in the late 1950s: Dwight MacDonald (New Yorker writer), Kenneth Tynan (theater critic), and Richard Wright (author of Native Son). All three writers collaborated with — but were also targeted by — American, British, and French spy agencies during this period.

Through archival audio, interviews, original research, and dramatizations of historical records, this new series will reveal the secret history behind operations that continue to shape the world we live in today.

Available now — Mumbai Crime: Six Suspects from Goldhawk Productions

Audio fiction fans will enjoy a new series of Mumbai Crime from John Scott Dryden and Ayeesha Menon of Goldhawk Productions, which features thrillers, crime stories, and mysteries recorded immersively on the streets of Mumbai, India. “Six Suspects” is a murder mystery and adaptation of the novel of the same title by celebrated author Vikas Swarup. Inspired by a true story, Vicky Rai, notorious son of a prominent Indian politician, shoots dead a waitress. Then at a lavish society party, he’s murdered as well. Who did it? The police investigation promises to be yet another unsolved mystery in a country full of unsolved crimes. That is until India’s leading investigative journalist steps in to tell the world the shocking truth.

A new season of Ear Hustle also recently kicked off, including an episode documenting one day in the life of San Quentin’s lower yard, from when it opens at 6am to when it closes at 8pm. Delving into realities of life inside prison shared by those living it, Ear Hustle also presents stories from the outside, post-incarceration. The show is a two-time Peabody Awards finalist, a Pulitzer Prize finalist, and in 2022 was honored by Fast Company in the World Changing Ideas Awards, named among “16 Ideas to Spark Change in the World Through Media and Entertainment.”
