Award-winning sports media company Religion of Sports and public media organization PRX today launched “In the Moment with David Greene,” a new podcast featuring in-depth conversations with star athletes on their most adrenaline-charged, fist-pumping moments that happened in the blink of an eye — but were years in the making for each and every one of them. They’ll also walk audiences through the impact these plays will have for generations to come, and how the athletes overcame defining challenges they’ve faced on and off the field.

In the Moment with David Greene” will release new episodes weekly. The new series is available free across all major podcast platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Amazon Music, Overcast, TuneIn, iHeart, and Pocket Casts.

Podcast host David Greene previously served as co-host of “Morning Edition,” the NPR news program heard by millions across the country, and has interviewed iconic entertainers, actors, and sports figures including Wayne Gretzky, Rhiannon Giddens, Alex Trebeck, Julia Louis Dreyfus, and Kendrick Lamar. Greene has also served as NPR’s correspondent in Moscow and as a White House correspondent — reporting from regions including Afghanistan, Rwanda, and Uruguay — and recently hosted the podcast “Ukraine Stories” from Fearless Media. Greene can also be heard on “Left, Right & Center” from KCRW in Los Angeles.

“I’ve spent years as a passionate interviewer — who happened to be a sports fanatic, that’s why this job is a dream,” said Greene. “I get to bring my curiosity about people and their stories into the room with sports celebrities and hold conversations that draw out their true humanity and what really drives them. I’m determined to make a show that welcomes diehard fans and non fans alike. All of us, along with an athlete, will immerse in a dramatic moment — on the field, diamond, pitch, court, rink, ring, track or otherwise! — and experience every second together. Then we’ll peel back to understand how the athlete got there and where they go from here. Lives are built on moments that can define who we are — a truth we can all relate to.”

Host David Greene

“In the Moment’’ will bring audiences thoughtful, inspirational, and highly personal conversations while illuminating greater life lessons that all may learn from. Every Tuesday, host David Greene will take listeners inside the mind of an athlete at a pivotal moment in their career.

David combines his experience as the former host of NPR’s Morning Edition with the passion of a diehard sports fan to relive some of the biggest moments in sports. To start, the series will release an episode featuring Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl champion Chris Godwin, ahead of the 2022 NFL season. Godwin delves into the 2020 NFC Championship game against the Packers, where he had a spectacular 52-yard reception, but it was a 6-yard run in the final minute that he remembers most.

Among others, future episodes will also feature one of the most renowned NFL Wide Receivers in Larry Fitzgerald and an unforgettable Super Bowl moment, Pro Bowl and Heisman Trophy winning Quarterback Robert Griffin III on the arc of his career, UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou, WNBA champion Elena Delle Donne, and multiple players from the NFL, including Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller, who discusses his recovery and rehabilitation journey following his suspension from the NFL in 2017, Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl champion, Ryan Clark, who helped lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Super Bowl in 2009, just one year after experiencing a life-threatening emergency, and Olympic runner Alexi Pappas on why the games in Rio were “the beginning of the end” of her life.

“Prominent and beloved athletes like Simon Biles, Russell Westbrook, and LeBron James have trusted Religion of Sports to tell their stories on film. Now, we’re carrying that care and trust into audio, in the intimate setting of the one-on-one interview,” said Adam Schlossman, Co Executive Producer of Audio at Religion of Sports. “David is the ideal host for ‘In the Moment,’ drawing out insight and significance from guests in the way only he can.”

Religion of Sports and PRX forged a podcast partnership in 2021. Together, they have brought audiences podcasts including a re-examination of Major League Baseball’s steroid era, “Crushed,” the sports mystery show “Lost in Sports,” and “False Idol,” a journalistic narrative series on the crimes of Oscar Pistorius, which was recognized by The Ambies from the Podcast Academy, the New York Festivals Radio Awards, and the 2022 Hashtag Sports Awards. Religion of Sports is also the producer of “Man in the Arena,” the podcast and television series featuring Tom Brady.

“Religion of Sports are not only true believers, but practitioners of high-quality storytelling, helping to set the bar for what’s possible in sports podcasting through person-centered narratives and storytelling, and now interviews,” said Jason Saldanha, Chief of Business Development and Content at PRX. “We’re thrilled to help bring ‘In the Moment’ to listeners, helmed by the trusted voice of David Greene. We’re also excited to bring audiences more from Religion of Sports.”
