Songonauts Is An Indie Musical Podcast

Hi, I’m Jonathan Mann, the co-creator of Songonauts and Guinness World Record Holder for Most Consecutive Days Writing A Song.
Songonauts is a podcast series about a band that finds a magical drum machine, transporting them into their own songs.

It’s like a portal that leads to the multi-verse, but each world is a song.

The themes of the show come from aspects of my life as a Person Who Makes Things On The Internet (sometimes referred to as a “Content Creator”).
For instance: In the show, the band has one “hit,” a novelty viral song called The Cookie Duck Dance. It has 3 million views on YouTube and it represents both their highest and lowest points. Highest because it’s the only time they’ve gotten attention, and lowest because it’s a terribly annoying song.
This is something I struggle with constantly. While I’ve had a string of viral “hits”, the music I make that I actually care about gets very little notice. I can toss off a dumb song in 20 minutes, film a silly video for it in my bedroom, and it can get millions of views on YouTube (one was even used by Steve Jobs to open a press conference). Then I can labor over an album for a year and hardly anyone hears it.
The irony is that Songonauts, this series I’ve put so much of my heart into, has actually reconciled these two competing realities. I’m more proud of this show than anything I’ve ever worked on, and thanks to the fact that it originally aired on Radiotopia’s The Truth, season one has been heard 1.4 million times.

Now we’re releasing season one on its own feed. I really hope you enjoy hearing it as much as I’ve enjoyed making it.
It’s eight episodes of bingeable heart and hilarity.
