“Weight for It” and “Embodied” Awarded by the The Podcast Academy in the 2024 Ambies®
The Podcast Academy announced winners as part of its fourth annual awards for excellence in audio, The Ambies®. Among the 2024 winners are two shows brought to listeners in partnership with PRX and PRX’s Radiotopia podcast network.
The personal storytelling podcast Weight for It created, produced, and hosted by Ronald Young, Jr. is awarded in three categories, including for “Best Indie Podcast,” “Best Indie Podcast Host,” and “Best Society and Culture Podcast.” Part of Radiotopia from PRX, the series is the most awarded production in this year’s awards.
Launched in 2023, Weight for It unpacks the nuanced thoughts of fat folks and of all who often think about their weight. The show was also a 2023 Tribeca Festival Official Audio Selection and was named one of the best podcasts of the year by Vogue, Apple, and The New York Times:
In addition, the podcast and public radio show Embodied from North Carolina Public Radio-WUNC is awarded in the “Best Wellness or Relationships Podcast” category.
Hosted by Anita Rao and brought to both podcast and broadcast audiences in partnership with PRX, Embodied is a one-hour weekly show illuminating the human experience through explorations of intimacy, health, and relationships:
The Ambies® celebrate excellence in podcasting and elevate awareness of podcasts as a unique and personal medium for entertainment, information, storytelling, and expression. The 2024 ceremony highlighted 192 nominees across 27 categories with winners selected by every voting member of The Podcast Academy (TPA).
A number of podcasts distributed in partnership in PRX were finalists across a variety of categories, including The Closer from Project Brazen, Moral Repair, Second Sunday, To The Best of Our Knowledge from Wisconsin Public Radio, How to Be A Better Human from TED, The Arthur Podcast from GBH KIDS and PBS KIDS, Shoot the Messenger from Exile Content Studio, Roughhousing from Religion of Sports, and Love Letters from The Boston Globe.
