The Molested Woman

A Poem, The Sometimes Gritty Reality of Church

O ye woman,
Once so fair and sweet,
You used to sit at Jesus’s feet.
You wept and cried and laid your heart bare,
But now sweet child, you sit in despair….

O O O O O O O O H
O O O O O O O O H

Come let us worship!
Come, and let us worship!
Why not dear bride, come stay at his feet.
You know you may come and find relief.

But I cry, I cry, I cry the day long
the once-bride remembers with face furrowed and drawn.

What, dear bride, has caused you such pain?
I cried out so many times again and again.

I left my child. I left my man.
I left it all to follow his plan.

I am tired of living, and I am tired of pain.
I want to live my life my very own way.
Forget the nail scars, forget the plan…
I am off and running; you better believe I can scam…

‘I am yours!’ I will cry all the daylong
But my heart, dear God, is mine, and it’s strong.

I’ll sit in the church, yes I’ll sit in the pew.
I may even decide to give a lesson or two.
‘I’m yours!’ I cry again and again,
But deep down you know, you haven’t got the true pen¹.

‘Ha!’ I laugh in my innermost being,
I’ll never admit who’s really the king.

Poor, dear, molested woman
Relief is there, so ready to meet,
If you would only come once again and sit, at your savior’s feet.

AMEN
