“There is no denying that this is a good policy, but it is still too late. I regret coming to the UK too early,” said Wang Zhanyun, a graduate student at the University of Manchester who enrolled in the human resources course for the 2019 academic year. Since the new policy will come into effect next year, it will not benefit her after her graduation.

International students at British universities are worried that the government’s plan to provide a two-year post-research work visa may make them worse in the future if the extra time is not given too much.

The government says international students will be granted a two-year work visa after graduating from a British university. But the new policy only applies to those who graduate in the summer of 2021, the announcement said.

“if this policy is implemented next year when employers are considering hiring, they will not consider those of us who graduate next year because we only have four months to stay here. They only need to wait for another six months before they can wait for graduates who have been there for two years. This makes our situation even more difficult. “ Wang Zhanyun said.

The controversial current immigration policy, formulated by Theresa May in 2012, gives students only four months to find a job after graduation.

More than 22000 people have signed a petition calling on the government to extend the new visa rules to international students currently studying in the UK.
