Introducing: the Psychedelic Neuron ðŸ§
The Psychedelic Neuron is live! We’re debuting our canister-owned neuron & putting in place community protocols for our votes and proposals.
Today, we’re taking our first step toward becoming a community steward by launching our own Psychedelic neuron.
It’s about time that we take a more active and direct approach to move community initiatives forward. That being said, we’re going to take this moment to also outline exactly what Psychedelic community members can expect from our team when we vote & make proposals.
Why a Psychedelic Neuron?
It’s no secret — We haven’t completely agreed with the recent direction of the Internet Computer’s development.
We see Psychedelic as a steward for the community. We want to continue to lead by example, releasing products that push community initiatives and ecosystem development. But — it’s time to crank that up a notch.
There’s no better way to do that than by having our, and our community’s, voices heard in the form of direct proposals and votes. We’ve talked about bringing Websockets to the IC, the DIP20 standard, and more ecosystem-changing initiatives. Now, through proposals, we plan to breath life into these initiatives through community-wide votes.
Not Your Run of the Mill Neuron
The Psychedelic Neuron isn’t like your typical neuron created through the NNS UI… no no no, we do things a bit differently around here. The Psychedelic neuron is the first public neuron managed by a canister instead of an identity.
Why you may ask?! Daowabunga, of course. We’re leveraging the multi-sig module that is coming to V0.1 of Daowabunga soon to manage our neuron. This means that the Psychedelic neuron will never be controlled by a single member of the Psychedelic core team.
Another benefit to our neuron being canister owned from day one is that it makes for a very easy transition to our neuron being controlled by a full governance module in the future 🤫
Protocol for Votes & Proposals
We believe transparency and communication are vital to the success of any neuron in the Internet Computer ecosystem. These values will be at the forefront of all of our votes & proposals.
We will always outline reasons for the way we vote and what we propose in blogs, threads, forum posts, or TownHalls. We want to give the community the ability to express their thoughts and opinions, no matter if they agree or disagree with our stance.
In the future with Psychedelic as a real DAO, community members will not only be able to have their voices heard but put their tokens to use to enact change in all of the communities we are involved in.
And yes, that last sentence does mean we will only be getting more active in communities other than the Internet Computer… but more on that soon 😉
Our Initial Proposals
We aren’t waiting to get started! We’re bringing two relatively simple NNS proposals to the table very soon that we are very confident in the community passing.
Proposal #1 — Add Psychedelic Neuron as a Followee
First, we want to propose Psychedelic as a followable neuron. We have one of, if not the biggest communities in the Internet Computer ecosystem. We want our community to be able to back our votes and have their voices heard by the greater ecosystem as a whole.

Proposal #2 — Make the Status Method Public
Our second proposal will make free up many features that are currently blocked as a result of a trivial decision made by DFINITY in the early days of the IC.
Our proposal will request that DFINTIY makes the IC’s Management Canister’s status method public. Currently, this method is private, meaning that only the owner of the canister is able to call it. The status method returns the following information:

None of this information is sensitive to public eyes and enables services to make decisions based on the attributes of another canister’s status. For more information on this proposal, take a look at this forum post from a few months back.
