If you’re looking for a creatively helpful resource for understanding the Enneagram System of Personality, look no further! This website, The Legend of Korra: A Guide to the Enneagram, was designed with the intent to function as a unique and easily-digestible resource for conceptualizing the Enneagram and learning its ins and outs. This is done through a comprehensive yet simple summary of all aspects of the Enneagram followed by individual character analyses for eight of the most notable characters from popular Nickelodeon show The Legend of Korra (LOK).

Throughout the website, you’ll find several different sections: an introduction to the Enneagram, a summary of each of the nine personality types, how to discover your own Enneagram type, a brief summary of The Legend of Korra and necessary context, a thorough character analysis for each of the most prominent characters throughout the series. The Enneagram itself is all about promoting self-understanding, self-awareness, and wellbeing, offering individualized insights into our most common behaviors, persuasions, and fundamental desires. By understanding the system’s framework through the context of The Legend of Korra and its characters, Enneagram-learners are able to place a face (a character’s persona) to an Enneagram type, so to speak, aiding in their comprehension and memorization of the framework’s different types and concepts through a fun, informative resource while potentially broadening their self-awareness and sense of self.

You may be thinking to yourself, why this show? Isn’t this just a cartoon? To that I would respond, well, yes, but it’s so much more than that. The series follows the life of Avatar Korra, operating under the premise that people are able to manipulate (known as “bending”) one of the four elements (water, earth, fire, or air), with the exception the “avatar” who is able to bend all four elements, inherently endowed with tremendous spiritual power, and tasked with bringing balance to the world. With an outstanding storyline and well-developed characters, both The Legend of Korra and its predecessor Avatar: The Last Airbender (ATLA) are ripe with opportunities for character analysis. However, I chose to focus only on LOK for a few reasons: For one, the show’s lengthier timeline, as compared to ATLA, enables us to see Korra’s longitudinal journey and growth. Secondly, with the pretext laid by ATLA, we already have insight into Korra’s world and are easily able to understand in contrast her with Aang (ATLA’s main character and the avatar proceeding Korra). Finally, with Korra encountering a new adversary each season, each representing a different threat and posing both external and internal conflicts for Korra, LOK lends well to a multi-faceted understanding of Korra’s self and identity.

Even if you’re never heard of or thought about the Enneagram or LOK, this resource can still be useful to you. While those who are fans of the show may gain a bit more from the character analysis portion of the project, the Enneagram’s various components and nuances are explained thoroughly yet succinctly throughout the site, making it a valuable resource for any Enneagram-learner.
