Simple Ways Managers Can Go From Good To Great
A small list for big results
It’s 4:30 pm on Friday.
I’m tired. Hell, I’m completely rinsed. Push me and I’d flop off my chair like a slinky in a sauna. Call me Mr. accordion legs.
Staring at my to do list, I see I’ve barely made a dent. This despite going full tilt all week. I don’t feel like I could have worked harder. It’s been coffee after coffee, constant motion, legs-a-blur, and managing to be here, there, and everywhere, but with little to show for it.
And now time’s up. Finito. The chance to fix it in regulation time is gone. So I’m staring down the barrel of another weekend of overtime, emails, and catching up. Then next week it’ll all start again.
I’m not sure how many more of these I’ve got in me.
I’m watching the self-confidence I had wither from a mighty oak to a skinny weed. I’m scrambling for some purchase on jagged rocks trying to scale the mountain of tasks, and finding I’ve got nothing but bloody fingers and grazed knees.
Despite positive appraisals, years of experience, and consistently decent output, I’m wondering if I’m management material at all.
