2017, The Year of Re-writing Ourselves?

I’ve learned the difference between a good writer and a greater writer. It is the ability to rewrite and edit your work. A great writer is able to critically examine their work and improve it constantly. A great writer isn’t scared to make amendments. There is a willingness to take risks and a sense of malleability that comes with perfecting your craft. The same can be applied to yourself.

The New Year is an opportunity to start thinking about these things. I want to stress that we should continuously reflect and evaluate ourselves — we really shouldn’t wait for a birthday or the new year to do this.

Like great writers, we must be willing to rewrite ourselves if we want to grow into the people we want to be. We shouldn’t be scared to make the changes we believe will ultimately improve who we are. Even if we are scared, we should make those decisions anyway.

In rewriting myself this year, but most critically in the past 4 months, I have realized that self-love is so essential. When you truly love yourself, you will make decisions that are best for you. It becomes easy to cut out bad habits and people who compromise who you are, because you realize these things are simply not worth your time.

In my self-love journey, I have realized that no matter how much of an independent woman I am, I am so deserving of love and care. I absolutely cannot be in any relationship that makes me feel like a burden in demanding the love and care I believe I deserve.

I want you to know you have the power to determine the kind of life and person you want to be. It takes time to fully become this person, but you should feel empowered to make the decisions to rewrite yourself. Remember it is always about progress, not perfection.

Happy New Year!
