The first book crowdfunded in Publica’s Book ICO is now published.
World’s first Book ICO use case on Publica.
Book ICOs have been a hot topic for us as of late and we have been working diligently to make them a reality. After all, Book ICOs are a critical part of the whole Publica ecosystem. While hard-work is important — results also matter a lot and on that note we want to share something exciting with you:
It is now PROVEN that you can run an ICO for a BOOK!
On July 5th the FIRST real use case of running and ICO for a book was made and it worked!
The American best-selling author Matthew “Nomadic Matt” Kepnes’ ran a book ICO for his then-upcoming book “Nomadic Matt’s Backpacking Guide to Europe” from June 6th to June 21st. To add to the uniqueness and exclusivity of the process only 1000 Book Tokens (or access keys) were available for purchase. All of the Book Tokens were purchased and the ICO ended as a success.
On July 5th the ICO process circle was completed with the supporters not only getting early access to the book, but also a special message from the author — Matthew Kepnes. And adding on top of that the technology behind it allows for the owners of the book to SEND the book to others transferring to them full access and ownership of that copy, just as you would with a paperback book!
This is really exciting for both the community and Publica as it proves that it is both technologically and practically possible to fully run an ICO for a BOOK!
Publica Brief
Publica.com is an evolutionary publishing platform using blockchain and cryptocurrency technology to innovate in how books are funded, distributed, bought, and read.
Publica’s blockchain technology makes it easier for authors to pre-sell or raise funding for their books, choose their own business model, keep their creative freedom, and their direct-selling revenue.
Publica introduced its e-reader app in May at London Book Fair and became the first company to tokenize books on the blockchain.
