Wading through the difficult process of publishing

There you have it.

As a publication owner, you receive numerous submissions each day to sift through and decide whether to publish, to edit, and whether the piece is right for your publication. It is not an easy process wading through the mystery of publishing, the what and the how’s, but it is rather subjective. In the case of what to publish, an owner and editor must know the publication first hand, the type of audience that it tries to draw in, the kinds of articles that are congruent with the publication, and the most difficult part, decide whether to publish it or not. I often think about whether I am crushing a person’s dreams if I reject a piece, but that may be irrational. It is most likely the case that, due to caring for the publication and attracting more readership, you publish more than you reject; nevertheless, at some point you are faced with the difficult decision, to publish or not.

This is no easy task.

As owners and editors, we often become devoid of the emotional nature of writing (except our own) and putting ourselves in the writer’s shoes, in order to truly understand their point of view, their message, their heart speak, and no matter…
