Will Your Writers Post Directly to Your Publication or Will You Edit Their Submissions First?

It’s a matter of quality or quantity

Some publications opt to enroll their writers as editors, thereby allowing them to post directly to the publication without any editing. While I understand why some publication owners prefer this, I believe that this can be detrimental to the writer, the publication, the publication owner, and Medium as a whole.

Editing articles submitted by writers before posting them can result in several positive outcomes:

  1. The writer’s work is enhanced by the editing process resulting in a polished and professional product. Remember that each piece of writing becomes part of a larger portfolio of work.
  2. The publication builds a reputation for containing high-quality articles that people are interested in reading.
  3. The publication owner builds a reputation for running a high-quality publication.
  4. The publication contributes quality writing to the reams of articles that exist on Medium, further improving the platform.

Conclusion

Your publication is part of your brand. I encourage all publication owners to provide editing for their writers to improve the writers’ skills, build a reputation for quality, and better the Medium platform.
