We have made it to the end of the year! Time to take a deep breath, slow down and look back on the 2019’s achievements with parties and jetting off to a much-deserved holiday.

Whether you are taking the opportunity to recharge your energy levels, or catching your breath over the multitude of things to do, what about spending some of that downtime at the public libraries this December?

Movie Screening: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

Enjoy The Nutcracker and the Four Realms with friends and family from the comfort of a library.

A retelling of the short story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (2018) follows the journey of a young girl who is transported into a magical world of gingerbread soldiers and an army of mice. A festive movie for all ages.

Monsters United is coming to a MRT station near you! Join adventurous Hutsy, magical Camy, science whiz Zecky and spooky-loving Rooky as they embark on their Monsters Reading Tour to selected stations this December.

Champions for different genres of children’s fiction, each monster will be sharing their favourite books with you! So join us from 11 am to 5 pm to borrow books, make slime and take home some wonderful goodies.

Storytelling in Singapore: Sign Language

The Singapore Association for the Deaf will be holding storytelling sessions for children at selected public libraries in Singapore. Listen to stories like Rumpelstiltskin and The Giant Turnip and pick up some Singapore Sign Language along the way!

[artseen] Get Started in: Playreading — Death of a Salesman

Keen to explore theatre but worried about stage fright? Take a primer with “Get Started in: Playreading”, a workshop geared towards making theatre more accessible to all with the aid of selected plays.

During the 2-hour workshop, participants will be introduced to warm-up exercises and drama games to prepare for the engagement with “Death of a Salesman” by Arthur Miller.

The workshop is conducted by Jolene Wong from Haque Centre of Acting & Creativity (HCAC). An actor, instructor and storyteller with a BA(Hons) in Acting from LASALLE College of the Arts, Jolene has performed with Toy Factory, Reach Out! (a branch of The Finger Players), Creative Tree, and The Haque Collective.

Workshop: From 2D to 3D

Transform an idea from sketch to sculpture, and explore how your art would look as part of Singapore’s landscape through the use of photography.

Participants will learn how to make small clay sculptures, followed by a basic introduction on how to photograph their creations through the inventive use of perspective.

Please note that photography equipment will not be provided. Workshop participants are required to bring their own (camera-enabled) phones to participate in the creative photography component.

All materials for drawing and sculpting will be provided. This programme is suitable for ages 10 and above.
