As we cross over the mid-year mark, let's take the time to pause and celebrate what we’ve done and contemplate what we hope to achieve. Here’s a selection of events that covers topics such as digital relationships and art therapy. Introspect and reflect on the relationships that enrich and enliven our lives or find out how art can lift our moods and ease anguish.

Read! Fest 2023 — “Flourish“

The theme of this year’s Read! Fest is “Flourish”, referring to the blossoming of our relationships with others and ourselves. These specially curated programmes include author talks, thought-provoking panel discussions, and hands-on workshops in English and the mother tongue languages that examine different aspects of community.

Relationships in a Digital World — My Digital Life

In an ever-evolving technological landscape, the ways we form relationships is being constantly tested against new hurdles and unknowns. With great freedom to surf the web comes a greater responsibility to navigate it carefully. Let Relationships in a Digital World guide you towards preserving your online welfare better.

This event will lead you through several topics, such as cyberbullying, avoiding phishing scams and identifying online predators.

Histories — Chronicling Local Football Roar Over the Generations

Football is definitively one of Singapore’s favourite sports, but how did that come to be?

This talk by A. Thiyaga Raju and Gary Koh serves as an online companion to their book on Singaporean football history, ROAR: Football Legends of Singapore. Both of them will share insightful research into all the different eras of Singaporean football, while taking a closer look at our local football stars!

About the Speakers

Thiyaga Raju Arumugam is a sports enthusiast. His passion for writing was ignited when he joined The Straits Times editorial department in January 1979. His “letters to The Straits Times Sports View” column was published regularly from 1979 to 1981.

Gary Koh is an experienced Singaporean football writer with sound knowledge of the local game. He began writing in 2004 with now-defunct website “Total Football” and had a stint as an intern at The New Paper Sports desk.

Sustainability and Harmony for the Future! — A Drama Performance

What do you envision when you think of the future? Spark your imagination with Sustainability and Harmony for the Future!, an event that weaves together a tapestry of drama performances to visualise what Singapore may look like 50 years later.

Presented by A.D.I Concept and held at Woodlands Regional Library, this event seeks to imagine a plethora of possibilities for our island nation, like flying cars soaring over the highways or miracle medicines that provide the cure to almost every ailment on Earth. Come on down to spend a morning filled with hopes and dreams!

Living/Leaving Legacy: Sharing from An Art Therapist — Ahead of Your Time

Across generations, art has been the avenue that allows us to express our innermost selves, transform, and heal. Caring for people on the brink of departure can be an emotionally arduous experience, which is why creativity can provide a therapeutic outlet to ease/alleviate our pain. In Living/Leaving Legacy: Sharing from An Art Therapist, Gillian Ong will talk about her own experience, offering you an in-depth perspective on coping with the loss of loved ones and channeling it into creative works.

About the Speaker

Gillian Ong is a Senior Medical Social Worker and Senior Art Therapist in Dover Park Hospice. Through her work, she witnessed how the therapeutic value of creativity in all its forms can be harnessed for social change and good.
