We have hit the mid-point of 2023, now is the time take stock, kick back, relax and find some fun things to do! If you’re looking for something to brighten up your calendar, our handy guide features five upcoming events on the horizon.

From an interactive guided tour about Singapore’s birds to a talk about classic leisure spaces in Singapore, there are activities for everyone from parents to preschoolers!

Discover Tech — Preparing Pre-schoolers for the Data & AI Future

From ChatGPT to social media platform loops, algorithms and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have become a significant part of our lives. However, even as adults continue to make sense of these emerging technologies, how do we prepare our children for this evolving digital age? Join us at this talk by tech lawyer Zaid Hamzah to find out how to prepare your children for the AI future.

This workshop is for parents only, specifically recommended for parents of children aged 4 to 6+.

About the Speaker

Zaid Hamzah is a data and AI practitioner. He has over 20 years of technology experience including serving as director at Microsoft. As a learning strategist, Zaid specialises in teaching data and AI concepts and practices to non-technical audiences.

Join Keita and Movin from The Singapore Birds Project as they take you on a virtual journey that will change your perspective on our beloved birds.

LearnX Communities — Make Mobile Digital Art for Absolute Beginners

Want to learn how to make digital art just like your favourite artists? Sign up for this Zoom session to discover how to use your mobile phone or tablet as a tool for artistic expression. In this 1.5 hour programme, get acquainted with the basics of layers, brushes and build a strong foundation in working with a digital palette.

Open to participants aged 13 years and above.

This programme is run by the Digital Art Club, one of NLB’s many LearnX Communities. These communities cover a wide range of topics and can be found in libraries all over the island.

Get Professional x Time of Your Life — Art of Asking Questions

Questions have been long regarded as important tools for everyday conversations, yet they often get misused, diminishing its effectiveness.

This online session emphasises the importance of asking questions and introduces tips that can help enrich discussions. You will also take part in some activities to learn how to practise active listening and put your questioning skills to the test!

With Stories of Iconic Leisure Spaces in Singapore, Andrea Kee and Timothy Pwee will walk you through a series of iconic leisure spaces, while revealing some well-kept backstories sourced directly from the National Library and National Archives collections.
