A lot of us are cynics, and we believe it’s for good reason. We’re the ones with our feet on the ground, who can see past all of the B.S. and baloney floating around these days — like a bunch of cows in a feeding frenzy over some fresh hay that’s been tossed into their pen by a farmer who wants to get them out of his hair for an hour or two. Yeah, a lot of us are cynical alright; too bad you can’t make an omelet without breaking eggs, as they say.

Here are 11 healthy benefits of being a cynic.

1. We’re less likely to be disappointed by people or things

Yes, one of the biggest benefits of being a cynic is that we’re always prepared for the worst and usually expect that, whatever will go wrong in any given situation, it probably will. Oh well. We don’t blame the universe for not being a good hugger, and neither should you. We’re not upset when we can see the badness of a person or thing. We know their core and what they’re made of, so why be surprised when they turn out to be the same as always?

2. We’re less likely to be taken advantage of by others
