From returning to school to coming off vacations and the quickly approaching turn of the season, September is often framed as a month to buckle down. To reset, refocus, and get stuff done.

It’s a sentiment that I can get behind, as I’ve been making some changes in my own life recently. Those changes just so happen to fall into September.

But like anything, change or resetting can be difficult. It can be tough to figure out what needs resetting or where to even start. So with that, here is my go-to strategy for how I’ve been going about these.

Timing Isn’t Important

September is an opportune time to reset for a number of reasons. It’s back to school for you or your kids. At the very least you’ll see and hear the school buses driving all over in the morning.

But you know what’s another month to start your reset month on?

Literally every single month.

When I decided I was due for a reset month, I didn’t just wait until the start of September to start doing it. I just made the decision, consciously committed to it, and now I’m following through with it.

I write (and sometimes do videos) about self-help for those who don't like self-help. Complete with the occasional memes and riffs on the industry that I love.
