AI Art Raises Questions No One Knows How to Answer
Imagine you’re in an art museum. In every room, on every wall, there are beautifully framed photographs or wonderfully vibrant illustrations. Even when they’re not of beautiful subjects, the works of art are lively, thought-provoking, stirring. They draw your eyes and fill you with wonder.
Now imagine that, while you’re wandering the museum, somebody informs you that every work in it was created by AI.

The AI art controversy has been a long time coming
Although AI and what it can do currently dominates our news, it’s been around for many years.
The AI illustration tool Midjourney and an artist who used it, Jason Allen, made headlines in 2022 when Allen submitted illustrations he had made using it, to the Colorado State Fair art competition. Allen’s entry, titled Théâtre D’opéra Spatial, took first place in the contest and also set off a firestorm of controversy.
