Why it’s time to stop busy bragging

I’m used to being busy. And, full disclosure, I have been guilty of talking about how busy I’ve been.

I’ve been packing up our home, ready for our new nomadic adventure, seeing clients, writing and keeping us fed.

So, yes, I’ve been busy. And so what? Why did I feel the need to keep telling people? Was I, drum roll, stress bragging?

Are you guilty of stress bragging?

Stress bragging, or busy bragging, is a new toxic behaviour many people exhibit. Do you constantly tell your colleagues how much you have to do or how inundated with work you are?

Not me, you might say; I work from home, but think about it: how often do you tell your partner or family how busy you are? And if you live alone with a cat, does the cat leave the room when you start to talk?

Why Do You Stress Bragg?

You might think that talking about how much you have to do makes you appear indispensable and important, but the opposite happens. Research from the University of Georgia, Terry College of Business, found people who brag about their stress levels are seen as less competent and less likable by their co-workers.
