Lately, I’ve felt out of sorts. Sure, summer has been nice, but it’s also been trying. After a time of relaxation, it feels good to have schedules and events that operate by the clock again.

Sometimes you need a break to recharge, and when you’ve rested, it’s time to get moving.

How do you do it?

You can use tried-and-true methods, such as pausing and breathing, prioritizing self-care, exercising, and staying positive.

All of those ideas are good, and we’ve heard them all before.

So, I ask again, how do you get back on track? Do these ideas resonate with you?

Change your scenery: Motion changes emotion. Maybe it’s time to work from a different room or from a new coffee shop. Try something new to break up the monotony.

Embrace the chaos: Realize that perfection is unattainable. Lean into the chaos by accepting that things are messy, and that’s okay. Striving for perfection is stressful. Reduce stress by reducing expectations, both of others and yourself.

Use Pomodoro differently: Work for 25 minutes- then do something completely unrelated for 5 minutes. Going to the bathroom doesn’t count. Build in fun time. You can spare 5 minutes for yourself. Perhaps doodle, watch cat or dog videos, or YouTube.

Gamify your tasks: Turn your to-do list into a game. Set a timer and see how much you can accomplish in a limited time.

It’s amusing to me that I use these techniques in the classroom with my students and sometimes forget that they work in life, too.

Maybe you have other ideas. If so, please share them.
