How a Stray Dog’s Kindness Taught Me the Power of Karma

And how it helped me understand Albert Einstein’s views on philosophy.

While their approaches and thoughts may be different, the ultimate goal of both philosophers and scientists is to find the meaning of life.

However, in today’s world, many perceive philosophy as obsolete with no relevance or footing. Renowned scientist Stephen Hawking in his book The Grand Design proclaims that philosophy, as practiced today, is a waste of time and philosophers a waste of space.

This disregard is not new. Albert Einstein explained it in his letter to Robert Thornton over 75 years ago. He said,

“So many people today — and even professional scientists — seem to me like somebody who has seen thousands of trees but has never seen a forest. A knowledge of the historic and philosophical background gives that kind of independence from prejudices of his generation from which most scientists are suffering. This independence created by philosophical insight is — in my opinion — the mark of distinction between a mere artisan or specialist and a real seeker after truth.”

Philosophy Is Not Obsolete
