How Finally Listening to my Girlfriend Changed My Life

“I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen.” Ernest Hemingway

Women always say “Men don’t listen” and they are correct.

We do not listen especially when people are trying to help us. We think we know best and are hardwired to think that way.

Why is that?

Researchers have many reasons why this is so:

-Men don’t care

-They are busy doing something else

-They are not interested

-They don’t think the issue at hand is a big deal

Full of Pride

Men are very prideful beings that think that they do not need to be told what to do and believe they have all the correct answers.

I myself have puffed out my chest and thought I knew everything and did not listen to anyone’s opinion. The amount of times I have been not so much been told what to do but it was strongly suggested was a good number of times.

Not listening has bitten me in the ass more times than I can remember. Yet you would think I would learn but no.

“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18

But I did learn one time and it paid off BIG TIME!!!

I have been having acid reflux issues for a little while now. Every time I eat anything I have a cough that follows it. I was clearing my throat constantly and my speech was not clear and sounded garbled. I went to the doctor a couple of times to which he prescribed pills to help clear it up.

During this time my girlfriend kept telling me that coffee produces acid and is probably contributing to your cough and reflux. Once again I did not want to listen because I thought I knew best.

The main reason I did not want to listen was that I LOVE COFFEE and the doctor said I could have one to two cups a day. Every time I heard her say about the coffee I replied back with “The doctor said I could have a couple of cups a day.”

I personally did not listen because I did not want to hear the advice that is being given because deep down I know she is right. I dreaded the fact that I would have to stop drinking coffee even if it was going to help me.

This cat and mouse game went on for a few months and I kept drinking it all along.

Until one night I had an immense coughing attack about one in the morning. I hacked and hacked and could not stop. Well this caused my girlfriend to wake up and worry tremendously. She got me water and a few sucking candies to sooth the attack which lasted over an hour. It scared the shit out of me and I did not know what caused it. I blamed the lasagna I had earlier for dinner for the attack.

The next morning she was not too happy with me and we had a heart to heart talk about health and my reflux. I promised her that I would stop drinking coffee for a while just like she advised me to earlier.

That was two weeks ago and I have felt fantastic ever since. I listened to her and have not had a drop of coffee.

I learned my lesson and intend to listen to my wise girlfriend in the future.

The majority of guys do not listen to anyone especially to women. As I said earlier they are prideful creatures who believe they know best.

I have seen countless examples of men not listening to their women in my interactions with people and the stories women tell about how their man does not and will not listen to something that will more than likely benefit him greatly or ease whatever issue he has like in my case.

Before I am hated by my fellow man for bashing him, I am giving a little friendly advice based on my experience.

I believe that we can all improve and have the ability to live long healthy prosperous lives. I would not want to see you miss out on this because of your pride.

We can all achieve what we want if we work together and listen to our other half. They are going to have your best interests in mind so why would you not want to listen to them.
