I had to learn to drive 5 years ago out of necessity. We had just enrolled our kids at a lovely daycare center atop a small hill and we were fortunate to be able to own a second-hand car.

The idea of driving, out with all the other cars on the roads, freaked me out. I’ve had so many near-accidents as a newbie driver, that it seems like a miracle my kids and I are still alive in spite of my indecisiveness on the road. But it also forced me to literally and metaphorically stand my ground and be unapologetically me, in all other aspects of my life too.

I’d love to share with you my top five life lessons I received through driving.

#1. Size doesn’t matter. Just give clear signals.

“You are allowed to take up space. Own who you are and what you want for yourself. Stop downplaying the things you care about, the hopes you have. Own your passions, your thoughts, your perceptions. Own your fire. Stop putting your worth in the hands of others; stop letting them decide your value. Own saying no, saying yes. Own your mood, your feelings. Own your plans, your path, your success.” — Bianca
