How to Find Common Ground When You Have Different Points of View
Is there anything you can do to come together?
Wouldn’t it be great if you could go through life and never have a disagreement with someone? If you could, then you would not get the opportunity to practice using your conflict resolution resolution skills.
At some point in life, you’re going to see something differently than someone else.
What do you do about it when the conflict arises?
You could stick your head in the sand and hope the problem goes away.
Sometimes, people do that, but it may not be the best way.
If you’re not a stick your head in the sand kind of person, you probably look for a solution.
Sometimes you have to agree to disagree: No matter how long you talk, you may never reach consensus, and here’s the important part — that’s okay. You can acknowledge that you have different perspectives and continue to respect each other as people.
Stay respectful: Even though you disagree, you don’t have to personally attack the other person. You can listen kindly, not interrupt, and create a safe space for open and honest communication.
