I have lost count of the number of times a book has magically crossed my path. I wasn’t looking for it. Every time, it appeared “by chance”, and it contained exactly what I needed at that moment in my life.

I am not surprised anymore. When it happens, I smile and I feel grateful.

But I’ve come to believe that one has to be in a certain frame of mind for it to happen. When we overthink and try to be in control, we get in the way of that magic.

Here’s how not to find the book you need, but let it find you.

“It may be the case, she said, that it is only when it is too late to escape that we see we were free all along.” — Rachel Cusk

Let me tell you about this book

It was morning, well, more like eleven o’clock; we’re not fond of alarm clocks. We had been out for a short time in the streets of Copenhagen — my favorite person on Earth had gifted me a trip there for my birthday. Wrapped up in a stack of two sweaters and a coat, we were not cold. We were heading towards the Royal Danish Library.
