I recently discovered that one of the most searched “how-to” questions on Google is this — how to write a heartfelt birthday message.

That instantly got my attention. I got to work almost immediately and I made a video about it. Here I am going to share the written version of the process discussed in the video.

Something to note before we go into this — if you want to write something heartfelt, don’t use AI. Never use ChatGPT or anything like that to write messages you want to hit the heart.

Your friends and colleagues know you more than you think. They know your speech mannerisms. While AI is very useful for formal uses such as business applications, formal letters, CVs, etc — when you are sure a human (who knows you personally) is going to take time to read what you wrote word after word, don’t use AI.

Start With a Shared Memory

You always start with a memory that you share with the celebrant. You always want to prove upfront that the message came from you.

No matter how beautifully you string words together, the person reading will have no way of knowing you really wrote it until there is a story that very few people know…

I observe and investigate things just to write about them - money, tech, creator economy, self-improvement, and more. Not financial advice though
